221B Con Harassment Policy

221B Con is dedicated to providing a harassment-free con experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of convention participants in any form. Convention participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the convention without a refund at the sole discretion of the convention organizers.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Exhibitors in the dealer’s room or similar activities are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately.

Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all conference venues and conference-related social events.

221B Con Badge Agreement

I agree to be completely responsible for any and all damage I cause to Hotel or Convention property. I further understand that violation of Convention rules will result in the loss of my Convention badge and forfeiture of my Convention membership, as well as potentially a ban from the Convention. Confiscation of badges are at the sole discretion of Convention staff.

I understand that all access to all convention functions requires a Convention badge worn in plain sight, and that there are no replacements for missing or lost badges.

221B Con Weapons Policy

For the safety of our members, 221B Con has deemed it necessary to further encode its weapons policy. If you choose to include replica weaponry in your costumes, please review this policy carefully.

221B Con understands that costuming is a vital and important part of the con experience, and we do not want to stricture the creativity of the fans in a senseless manner. Fans choosing to carry prop weapons, or other items listed below, use and carry them at their own risk. They assume all liability to and from anyone injured or otherwise harmed directly or indirectly by the fan’s acts or inaction. 221B Con shall not be liable for injury, harm, damage, or any other liability associated with any person’s use of any weapon permitted, or banned, at 221B Con events.

All costume “weaponry” must comply with the Con policy and with local, state, and federal laws. It is the responsibility of the fan to familiarize themself with all applicable laws as this policy does not constitute legal advice.

221B Con Weapons Policies are enforced at all times and non-compliance can result in confiscation of your badge and expulsion from the con. The determination to expel a member is solely at the discretion of 221B Con staff.

Should a member of 221B Con Staff ask to inspect a member’s weapons, they must be allowed. Failure to allow the inspection will result in confiscation of the member’s badge and expulsion from the Con.

  1. Live steel (real swords, daggers, knives, or metal items) is not allowed.

  2. No firing weapon or real guns, even if they are modified not to fire.

  3. Real working weapons of any kind are prohibited.

  4. Members may not brandish a weapon, fake or otherwise, at any time. Brandishing is defined as exhibiting a weapon in a manner that mimics actual use against a person. We will not allow dueling or other “fake” displays amongst costumed fans. 221B Con Staff and Hotel Security are empowered to decide what constitutes brandishing. We may confiscate the member’s badge, and they will be expelled from the con at our discretion.

F.A.Q.

Where is the Con being held?

Please visit our Hotel page for the most current hotel information.

When will the full schedule be posted?

When we are sure it is set in stone. We want to post the schedule as soon as possible, but don’t want there to be any mistakes. We will post it before the Con, but we do not have a set date at this time.

What are the beginning and ending times of the Con?

Registration usually opens around 3PM. The first panels begin around 5PM on Friday and 10AM Saturday and Sunday. Saturday programming will run until about 1:30AM, and the Con will shut down at 5PM on Sunday. These times could change, so keep an eye on the website and our social media for the schedule to be released.

Can I still apply to be a panelist?

Panelist application will open shortly after the panels have been posted. Keep an eye on the Events page for information.

What is a panel like?

We have had several people email asking what the Con is going to be like. In order to give you an idea, we are posting this generic description of how a panel will run.

Most panels will have 3-4 people sitting on them. We have worked very hard to choose panelists with expertise in their assigned topics. They will each have an opportunity to speak about the assigned topic and discuss it amongst themselves then the room will be opened for questions. The panelists can query one another or audience members can ask a question or contribute their thoughts.

It’s very much like a classroom run by peers. Please feel free to participate and enjoy the panels-that’s what they are there for!

Can I get the contact information of my fellow panelists?

Yes. After each of the panels have been approved and panelists assigned we will send out an email to all of the panelists that allows for you to talk and plan ahead. If you do not wish to have your email shared with the rest of your panel please email prog [at] 221bcon.com to let us know.

I am a panelist. Can I bring a visual aid?

For the most part, we ask that you don’t. We will not have projectors and screens in every room, so a PowerPoint presentation isn’t feasible. However, you can bring things like books, actual pictures, and other things that you can carry in to the panel yourself. Keep in mind there are other people on the panel and you will be sharing time with them.
